2-Minute Setup Guide (Zero-Paste Theme App Embed & Custom Pixel)
3 min read · Last updated
OneClick: Google Ads Tracking connects your Shopify store to Google Ads in three guided steps inside your Shopify Admin — with no code editing required on the default setup.
Step 1: Sign in with Google & Select Your Google Ads Account
- Open OneClick: Google Ads Tracking from Shopify Admin → Apps.
- Click Sign in with Google and grant the requested Google Ads permissions so OneClick can create and verify conversion actions on your behalf.
- Choose the 10-digit Google Ads Client Account (
xxx-xxx-xxxx) that runs your campaigns.- Using a Manager Account (MCC)? Select a child client account underneath your MCC rather than the top-level MCC container itself (see Connecting Google Ads & Manager (MCC) Accounts).
Step 2: Create Deduplicated Conversion Actions in 1 Click
OneClick automatically configures clean Google Ads WEBPAGE conversion actions tailored for Shopify e-commerce:
- Purchase — set as Primary for bidding optimization, using your Shopify Order ID for automatic duplicate-order protection, plus Enhanced Conversions.
- Begin Checkout, Add to Cart & Page View — configured as Secondary (“Observation”) actions by default so upper-funnel micro-events never inflate your Purchase Smart Bidding targets.
- Dynamic Remarketing — emits
shopify_{COUNTRY}_{product_id}_{variant_id}item IDs matching standard Shopify Google Merchant Center product feeds.
Step 3: Activate Your Storefront Tag via OneClick → Setup
Important: Always launch your storefront setup from OneClick → Setup inside your Shopify Admin and follow the option marked Current setup. Do not toggle the app embed manually inside Online Store → Themes → Customize on your own — clicking OneClick’s button inside Setup is what activates purchase conversion delivery for the zero-paste mode, while existing Custom Pixel stores stay cleanly on their Custom Pixel.
Option A: Zero-Paste Storefront Tag (Default for New Installs)
- In OneClick → Setup, click Enable Storefront Tag in Theme Editor.
- Confirm at the top of the Shopify Theme Editor that you are editing your Live (Published) Theme (if a draft theme opened, switch to your published theme first).
- Ensure the “OneClick Google Ads Tag” app embed is toggled On, then click Save in the top-right corner.
Option B: Custom Pixel Mode (Existing Stores or Headless / Custom Setups)
If your store uses the Shopify Customer Events Custom Pixel mode (marked Current setup on tenured stores, or if you select “I prefer a custom pixel” for headless/Buy Button storefronts):
- Copy the generated loader snippet shown in OneClick → Setup.
- Open Shopify Admin → Settings → Customer events → Add custom pixel (for example, named
OneClick Conversion Tracking). - Paste the snippet, click Save, and click Connect.
Step 4: Verify Live Storefront Events
You never need to inspect HTML "View Page Source" (Shopify runs modern pixels inside isolated sandboxes that do not appear in raw theme source). Instead:
- Open your live online store in a new browser tab and view any product page.
- Return to OneClick: Google Ads Tracking in your Shopify Admin and check the Storefront Event Status card on the home screen (or click Check again).
- Once verified, OneClick confirms real-time storefront heartbeats are arriving. Note that Google Ads conversion tables themselves can take up to 3–24 hours to display newly attributed conversions due to Google’s Data-Driven Attribution processing window.
